Yes. The headset panel decides where the overlay is drawn, not where its numbers come from. Something on your race PC has to read iRacing — GridCast Lite does this on its own, or the Broadcaster app if you're running a full broadcast.
With no data source, driver-aid widgets show a demo with an amber DEMO tag. That's handy for positioning panels before a session.
